"A story that could be icky, but is so well written, with such nuance and delicacy, and beautiful art, that it really is one of the best manga of the year. I'm so excited to keep reading it."

  • I was waiting for this to get localized ever since the anime ended! Loved the anime and the manga is equally great! The price might seem higher than usual but check that page count. It's basically a double volume.
  • A story that could be icky, but is so well written, with such nuance and delicacy, and beautiful art, that it really is one of the best manga of the year. I'm so excited to keep reading it.
  • I love the anime, and I love this manga. I can't wait for the next volume to come out. This manga tackles are very interesting topic and I think I handles it very well.
  • Very cute! I love this manga!!! )
  • The world of Japanese manga has a tradition of introducing somewhat transgressive elements in their stories. However, manga is a literature of and for young people in a society that is very moral, superficially at least, and for that reason the creators of Japanese manga, including this one, are not allowed to travel very far down forbidden paths. In this respect, this literature reminds me greatly of the "titillating" women's magazine stories that I remember from the America of the 1950s, wherein sin always seemed to be looming, but invariably the only real sin lay in hints given in the story titles.

Ours was a shame society then, as Japan's culture has always been, and after a few decades' interregnum of great literary freedom, we are now travelling down that route once again. It's fascinating to have lived long enough to have seen sexual conventions in popular literature travel full circle this way.

All the reviewers here apparently feel compelled to obey the current spirit of the times and assure us that no love affair will ever happen between the two main characters of this story. I have no doubt that they are right, and this author will extricate his characters unshamed from their mutual attraction, but I hope the manga at least does the extrication job less clumsily than the anime made from this manga did.

All that aside, it's a good and sweet story of two people who find themselves in deeply disappointing circumstances, and yearn for someone to comfort them in their sorrow. The drawing is fine and delicate, the main characters are sensitive and sweet, and we can't help rooting for them and wishing them well.
  • I pre-ordered the manga a while after I had finished the anime. I can say that the manga adds little quirks and small details fans of the anime will appreciate and love! This manga had been presumed by many to be a love-gap romance or fan service raunchy story. I can promise you, it is a tasteful and very sweet story. The author handles the subject matter very skillfully and in a way that makes you more curious than creeped out. The manga feels like a throwback to 90s manga and anime classics, minus the cheesy parts. I don't want to give plot points or spoilers since there is a plot synopsis available. This is the type of manga you don't just read, it's the type that you feel and it may bring back memories of your own. Please don't let the summary turn you away from a rare gem of a story!
  • I wish it wasn't an omnibus, otherwise it is a good book
